Day 6: I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord

I hope you are all having a blessed Lord's Day.

No words from me today, just some sweet worship.

I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord
Timothy Dwight, 1800

I love thy kingdom, Lord,
the house of thine abode,
the church our blest Redeemer saved
with his own precious blood.

I love thy church, O God:
her walls before thee stand,
dear as the apple of thine eye,
and graven on thy hand.

For her my tears shall fall,
for her my prayers ascend;
to her my cares and toils be giv'n,
till toils and cares shall end.

Beyond my highest joy
I prize her heav'nly ways,
her sweet communion, solemn vows,
her hymns of love and praise.

Jesus, thou Friend divine,
our Savior and our King,
thy hand from ev'ry snare and foe
shall great deliv'rance bring.

Sure as thy truth shall last,
to Zion shall be giv'n
the brightest glories earth can yield,
and brighter bliss of heav'n.

And in honor of His day, I'm giving you an extra song to make your soul sing. I came across this when looking for yesterday's video and I've been humming it ever since.

  1. I've never heard of I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord but I do recognize the tune... Rise Up O Church of God is a favorite of mine!

I also like Higher Ground. We haven't sung that one in a long time!

    1. Interesting! My hymnal doesn't have Rise Up O Church of God, but has Come, We That Love the Lord with the same tune. And when you mentioned Rise Up I was sure I was familiar with it, but I guess not. So I just looked it up -- beautiful lyrics!

Amazingly, I don't think any of the hymns from my series will have duplicate tunes. There are so many hymns that share tunes, and I can get so attached to tunes that I figured it was bound to happen. : )
