Summer Break and a New Look

 photo lilacs2013.jpg

I was just starting to get back into the blogging groove this winter when all of a sudden my blog design completely disappeared. Although I had been planning a redesign for awhile, I did not have the time to take on such a project. Instead of just putting up a basic, temporary design I let my perfectionistic tendencies win and I lost all motivation to do anything. {sigh} In the meantime, I've missed a million blog-worthy moments, and I've missed having this outlet.

Never fear, summer break has finally arrived and I've spent the last couple of days giving my blog a much needed makeover. There is still much to do and problems to fix, but I'm tired of looking at a post from March every time I reload the page, so I'm coming out of hibernation.

For the first time in years we are going to have a relatively quiet summer. No swim team. No competitive track (more on that another time). Those two things alone have kept our summers very, very full the last few years. The kids are having a little trouble adjusting to the lack of activity, but miracle of miracles, Ryne and Grace are currently (by their own initiative) vacuuming all the crud out of the lego table! Maybe boredom is a good thing.

So what do I have planned for the summer? The Great Blue House Purge, for one. My plan is to have an epic garage sale at some point. We have a decade worth of accumulated stuff and junk to get rid of. I also have projects from last summer to finish and lots of organizing and planning to get done. I'll be driving a car full of kids to church camp in Wisconsin one week {pray for my sanity!} and we'll probably be doing some other travel as well. And I have a big stack of books I'm anxious to start.

Oh, I have so much else to share, but I've been on this computer all day and really must do something else productive!

I'd love to hear about your plans for the summer!

  1. Oh, it's sooo pretty. I love it, even if it isn't completely done.
Big cleaning and yard sale plans? Are we doppelgangers? lol Perhaps I should ship my stuff there or you ship yours here, and we could start a small home ed shop. :)

Glad to see BHA up and running. I've missed visiting here.

    1. Thanks, Dawn! I was able to work on it some more last night and get the design part done. Now I just need to finish the menu pages and fix one more problem and I should be done. : )

Yes, I was jealous when I read you'll be having your sale this weekend. I think it will take me all summer to get ready! Too much junk! : )

  2. I love your new design...simple, calming, peaceful.
I made a list of things I want to accomplish this summer. One was just completed on Friday. It took me several hours to help Luke and Caleb go through all their clothes and reorganize. Funny thing, I don't have to do that for Sam and Hannah...they do it on their own. :)

    1. Thanks, Melanie! That's always been the goal with my blog design - a peaceful place to go to escape the chaos that is often happening at the Blue House. ; )

Congrats on crossing something off your list! I made a list too and keep adding to it. I think it's up to 4 pages now, but if I get even half of it done I will be a happy girl.
